Everyone loves the idea of Summer, especially because of the fact that have more free time. But with that free time, there also comes a whole lot of boredom. Especially if you are a student, like me. You get used to having a certain schedule to follow during the semester and once you’re free of all your responsibilities it’s really up to you how you spend your hours. I spend way more days than I should, not getting out of bed and just watching Netflix. I once finished an entire season consisting of 23 episodes in two days…don’t judge me. I know it’s hard figuring out what to do everyday, especially if you live in Los Angeles. We get so used to what is around us and forget about all the fun things that are available to us. So I made a list of my favorite things to do during the Summer incase you are unsure on how to spend your days!
There are so many beaches in Los Angeles! The weather gets so hot, sometimes in the 100s, and the beach is always a cooler temperature which makes it perfect for those scorching hot days where you seriously just can’t take it anymore. Let’s face it, in LA we have one to many of those. Whether you want to go to Santa Monica to walk around at the pier, I don’t recommend going in the water there, or go towards Malibu to lay out and take a dip, there are so many options. Plus there a bunch of cute little restaurants on the beach in Malibu so you can definitely have some brunch and make a day out of it!
Watch a Movie
I’m not talking about going to a regular movie theater and watching a movie, I’m talking about those unexpected places that you might have not even known about. The Hollywood Forever Cemetery has movie showings every summer and you’re more than welcome to bring your own food and drinks to have a picnic. There are so many outdoor movie spots similar to this, take advantage of it! When the sun goes down, so will the temperature and it will be perfect to sit out with friends and enjoy some snacks.
There really is endless amounts of shopping malls in Los Angeles, which is one of the many reasons I love it. Go to Melrose, Third Street, Century City, even Topanga Mall, I guarantee you can spend your entire day there. Whether you like to shop at outdoors malls or indoor with the air conditioning keeping you cool, there are so many options for you to choose from. Oh and don’t forget about the outlets! Amazing deals to keep you busy all day.
Go on a Hike
If you’re an early bird, you’re going to love this one. The key to going on a hike on a blazing Summer day is definitely getting up early and hurrying over there before the sun starts to make its way out. If you go in the middle of the day, you might actually pass out. Take your pick from trials that have amazing views, and even some historic value. Try the famous Runyon Canyon if you’re ready for a slight challenge. Don’t forget to post a picture once you get to the top…”Mama we made it.” #Basic.
Spend a Day at a Museum
I love going to Museums and looking at the different art that is displayed for you. You can find some great museums with free tickets, just don’t forget to reserve your spot. One of my favorite museums is The Broad, they have such cool art pieces and the mirrored infinity room is such a sight to see! Trust me, the long line is worth the wait. This summer I have The Last Bookstore written down on my list and I can’t wait to go. The LACMA is also a great option, not to mention the lights outside of the museum are also super nice!
Last but not least, one of my FAVORITE things to do over summer is search for those interesting food places that always pop up on Facebook or Buzzfeed and track them down. It’s so much fun to find see all of these cool places in popular videos and then finally go there yourself. You’ll be amazed at how good they are. Recently, I went to Pasta Sisters which was in a video I had seen on one of Buzzfeed’s “Worth it Winner” episodes and it has easily become one of my favorite restaurants ever. I’ve gone almost three times in two weeks, although I’m trying to limit myself from going to much so that I won’t get sick of it, if that’s even possible.
